Sometimes Ya Just Gotta Laugh

What a start - or actually an end to my day!

I work nights - the 11:00 p.m to 7:00 a.m shift...not an easy thing - but I try to make it work.

Well...this morning I got done work -did a little food shopping, and then stopped at a local convenience store to pick up something ( a coffee).

I didn't wanna carry my whole handbag in, so I grabbed my wallet..popped my car trunk - (to put my handbag into - instead of leaving it in the car) ..hit the lock button on the door of the car as I got out, and shut the car door....

My car has one of those button ignition kind of thingys ...

Anyway when you leave your keys it will let you know by a sound. Unfortunately there was work being done in the parking lot and I didn't hear the sound.

I put my bag in the trunk, shut that and then went to reach for my keys which I thought were in my pocket. NO KEYS...(more precisely a remote), those were in the cup holder IN the car!!

Thank God I have roadside assistance!! What a lifesaver sometimes.....

It took them about 40 minutes to get to me....I had a few "chilled" items from the store (they seemed fine) and ice cream cones......which may or may not have survived, I was too tired to check...just stuck them in the freezer.....lol

I'm usually not so bubble headed...(ok..ok - maybe sometimes)....but it was a rough night at work, and I was sore and tired.....

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it....LOL

Did get some sleep after that, and the silver lining in my little "adventure" is:

I have off tonight....YAY!!

Have a good night all.....and as my PSA for today: Make sure ya have your friggin keys BEFORE you lock and shut the door....

These are the tools they use to get the door open.....and it took him under a minute. Yikes!!

After working a full night shift, you are given a total pass on the keys. I have done that in the middle of the day already. And yes, it is great to have roadside assistance. That is until they come out and use the door pry thingy you posted, which leaves the total feeling of "damn, I need to get one of those". Of course, then I realize that even if I had one of those, it would be locked in the car with my keys. Anyway, enjoy your well deserved night off! And here's wishing you a much better day tomorrow!

Yeah....I kinda thought I deserved a forgetful moment.....although I did bang my head ever so lightly on the car window (for my forgetfulness....lol) as I looked at the keys in there.

This was the first time I did it with this car, but did it with my last car twice I think....ugh!

Roadside is great! I also used them to change a tire for me once as well when I got a flat. Although I made the mistake of telling them I hit a pothole and apparently that's not covered, so I had to pay out of pocket. Thankfully it wasn't too expensive.

Funny thing.....(sorta) - my daughter calls me around 4:00 this afternoon on her way home from work (she's an RN now....YAY!!) and asks me if we have roadside assistance. SHE hit a pothole and heard the air go out of the tire!

I told her yes we do .....But DO NOT tell them it was a pothole. If they don't ask....do not tell......lol

She got home okay, and had a nice dinner of sausage, peppers and onions (over rice) waiting for her

Thanks for the good wishes.....

I think her and I are both hoping for a better tomorrow......lol

I think probably any of us that have been driving for awhile has done it at least once....some of us (me) have done it a couple times.....lol

I realized it after I shut the trunk and put my bag in there.

The thought even crossed my mind - had I not shut the trunk....I might have been able to climb through,by pushing the back seat down! You can imagine the looks I'd get on that one? Hahahahaha......

So yes, I was screwed....and not well at all....lol

I've actually thought about getting the "tools of the trade" myself....but I'd probably have them in the trunk and without the remote to get in there....I'm no better off....lol

I have an extra remote for the car and texted my one daughter (thank God I had my phone in my pocket at least) to go to the house and get it.

But she was sleeping and didn't hear the phone. I didn't try to call cause she could have been in school or at work! Had I known I would have relentlessly called until she picked up......lol

Thanks for the tip. I've left the keys in my car before, but my doors won't lock when they're in there.

Sure thing....you're welcome!

My car gives me an alert if I lock the door, with the keys (remote) in it, and gives me a few seconds to open the door...before it locks, but I didn't hear it because of the rather loud work being done in the parking lot.

Soooooo frustrating....especially when you're sore and tired......lol

Hmmmmm.....all I know is I hit the lock on the door, got out (I had popped the trunk from inside),shut the door....walked to the back of the car, put my handbag in the trunk...shut the trunk and then reached in my jacket pocket thinking the keys were in there....and NO keys.

There is a few seconds delay and a sound notification if the keys are left in the car, but it will ultimately lock if you don't open the door within that time.

The car is a Mazda.....

No damage to the car...and just under 40 minutes wasted!

I have been very careful today...to make sure I have the keys......lol

I wont bore you with my tale- I really feel for you coming of third shift.

I'm left wondering who in the hell could make those hours work! And what sort of job it could be, lots of interesting ideas
In this part of the world most night shifts run from either 6 to 6 or 8 to 8

Yeah....me too!........lol

I am basically a "personal shopper" for people who have no time to shop, no desire to shop or perhaps are older, or maybe can't get out due to health or age.

Was that one of those jobs you were thinking of?,,,,hahaha

I would prefer to work during the day honestly, but the job I have pays more for the night shift. The upside is it is quieter, and I only have to deal with the nuts I work with, instead of customers......lol
